European deportations: report on the virtual seminar 25-06-20

The Sheffield MRG kicked off the first, in their new series of virtual seminars, with a presentation from Dr Agnieszka Radziwinowiczówna. Agnieszka provided a fascinating insight into the increasing use of deportation, during the Brexit transition period, to forcibly remove EU citizens. This practice highlights the reality of the EU settlement scheme in determining ‘good’ and ‘bad Europeans and the ‘othering’ discourses used to construct Eastern Europeans as deviant. Dr Michaela Benson joined the seminar as a discussant.

In total we had 47 people joined the seminar from five different countries and the event generated interest across the NGO sector, which highlights the benefits of attending virtually.
